EVR Summit Centre: Elk Valley Field House Society and Elk Valley Resources announce naming of new community facility
Fernie, BC – The Elk Valley Field House Society (EVFHS) and Elk Valley Resources (EVR) are pleased to announce the future field house currently under development in Fernie will be named the EVR Summit Centre, recognizing EVR’s landmark $1 million contribution to the project and its commitment to supporting communities across the Elk Valley.
The EVR Summit Centre will be a multi-purpose recreational and community gathering space located adjacent to the Fernie Aquatic Centre. Developed and operated by the EVFHS, the facility will provide a much-needed indoor venue for sports, recreation, events and community programming for residents throughout the Elk Valley. Construction of the EVR Summit Centre is expected to begin later this summer.
The naming announcement marks another significant milestone for the project, which was initiated following the closure of the Fernie Community Centre in June 2024. Since then, the EVFHS has worked closely with community members, local organizations and government partners to advance plans for a sustainable, accessible facility that will serve the region for generations. “We are honoured to have EVR’s name associated with this important community asset,” said Antony McElwee on behalf of the Elk Valley Field House Society. “The naming of the EVR Summit Centre recognizes not only a transformational financial contribution, but also EVR’s commitment to helping build stronger, healthier and more connected communities throughout the Elk Valley. Their support has helped move this project from vision to reality.”
EVR announced a $1 million donation to the project last year, providing a major boost to design, planning and fundraising efforts. The contribution represents the largest private-sector investments in the future facility. “We recognize how important it is for residents to have access to a year-round space for the community to gather for recreation and community events,” said Mike Carrucan, CEO, EVR. “We are proud to support a facility that will bring people together and create lasting benefits for families, organizations and communities across our region.”
The planned facility will feature multi-purpose gymnasium space and flexible community areas designed to accommodate a wide range of activities, from sports and fitness programming to community gatherings, cultural events and celebrations. The EVFHS continues to advance fundraising and project development efforts and welcomes support from organizations, businesses and individuals who share the vision of creating a vibrant indoor community hub for the Elk Valley.
